A small village situated in the beautiful Malta Valley, which is known as the "valley of rushing water", named after its many waterfalls. Just 3km from the medieval town of Gmünd, with its many amenities and a 25 minute journey from Katschberg.
The medieval town of Mauterndorf with its historic town centre and impressive 13th-century castle, is situated in the most central point of the Oberlungau ski area. The Großeck Gondola goes directly from the town centre up to the Großeck/Speiereck ski area. Mauterndorf is also close to the Fanningberg ski area and to St Margarethen, which links in toKatschberg.
Tamsweg, the attractive regional capitol of the Lungau Region, is a market town within easy reach of the Oberlungau ski area and also close to Obertauern. The main ski areas of Katschber, Maria Pfarr and Mautherndorf are each just 10 minutes away with Obertauern being just 25 minutes by coach.
